Vote For Wendy!

June 8, 2010

A Toronto designer very close to my heart, Wendy Wong, has been chosen to compete in ELLE Magazine’s Fashion From The Edge Competition, where two chosen designers go head-to-head completing unconventional design tasks that are posted online for people like you to vote for the winner. The first challenge is to create a look inspired by Stoli White Pomegranik. Wendy’s concept is so chic and sexy, the color is stunning, and knowing the fit of her clothes it will be incredibly flattering. The winner of the challenge will have their outfit exhibited at New York fashion week, so check out the competition page, watch Wendy’s video and VOTE LIKE CRAZY!

How do I know Miss Wendy Wong? In the summer of 2006, before my final year of fashion school, I interned at Wendy’s label House of Spy. It was my first taste of the fashion industry and look into how a studio operates. She made it such an excellent experience for me and I like to think of her as a mentor. The biggest lesson I took away from that experience was how possible it was to just go for it on your own. With a lot hard work and determination it’s possible to start your own label and do it all yourself. Wendy started her label straight out of fashion school in 2000, with only an eight piece collection that she managed to sell to several retailers and everything just went from there. Now her collections are sold across Canada and the United States as well as carried by beloved retailer Anthropologie.

Since her start in 2000, her style has inevitably evolved. In the spring of 2008 she launched a secondary vintage inspired knitwear line, Beatrice Holloway. Shortly after, in the fall of 2010, she re-branded her label Maison, to reflect the more sophisticated direction her designs were taking. Wendy’s style has always been very feminine and flirty, creating fun easy to wear pieces that instantly become your favorite go-to pieces, and I should know – half of my summer wardrobe is made up of pieces I’ve picked up at her sample sales over the years.

Once you’ve checked out the Maison and Beatrice Holloway sites, be sure to stop by the online shop to pick up your own perfect-little-something. Now that you’ve fallen in love, don’t forget what I first told you – go to and VOTE FOR WENDY!
